    History

At Guru Nanak Sikh Academy our all-through vision for History is to develop curious, independent learners who are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to interrogate the past.

Through the journey from EYFS to KS5 pupils will progressively acquire the knowledge to engage critically with rich and diverse historical enquiries. Building upon the aims and objectives outlined in the National Curriculum, pupils will develop the necessary substantive and disciplinary knowledge to explore a range of enquiries that require them to engage with both historical sources and interpretations to develop a rich understanding of a variety of historical narratives and form their own judgements of the past. They will become critical thinkers who can use their skills and knowledge to both understand and engage with historical processes.

Pupils will achieve an appreciation for the past through gaining the necessary chronological fluency and criticality to interrogate sources, historical interpretations and form substantiated judgements. In achieving this, they will be able to approach future pathways with an awareness of a variety of experiences which inform the lives and outlooks of those around them, therefore affording them the ability to approach all interactions with respect and humility.
