To inspire our students in a love for Geography so that it’s a subject of choice in school and beyond
At Guru Nanak Sikh Academy, we recognise the importance of a strong all-through Geography curriculum in shaping our pupils' world knowledge, from Primary through to Secondary. Our progressive, enquiry-based curriculum develops pupils' sense of place, understanding of natural features, and how these elements will change in the future. Geography is more important and relevant today than ever before, and we believe it is our role to give pupils the opportunity to investigate global situations and diverse cultures through real-life experiences inside and outside the classroom. Through exploration, enquiry, and discovery, pupils gain a deeper awareness of how the world works, an appreciation for different lifestyles, and a healthy curiosity about life beyond their daily experiences.
We aim to equip pupils with the skills to think like geographers by engaging with high-quality resources, maps, and atlases. As they progress through our curriculum, they deepen their geographical skills, make insightful observations, and use key geographical vocabulary to interpret the world around them. Our pupils explore how the physical and human elements of the world interact across local, regional, and global scales, learning through fieldwork that distinguishes Geography from other subjects. With a focus on critical global issues such as climate change, international conflicts, migration, and globalisation, our curriculum remains highly relevant and reflective of the challenges we face as global citizens. By engaging with these issues from Reception through to Year 13, our students develop a passion for the world’s diversity and leave with a desire to make a positive difference to the future.
