At Guru Nanak Sikh Academy our all-through vision for Spanish is to inspire pupils to become confident communicators who value the importance of learning languages. We aim to foster curiosity, cultural awareness, and a lifelong passion for language learning, enabling pupils to understand and appreciate different cultures, perspectives, and identities.

Through the journey from EYFS to KS5 pupils will progressively acquire the knowledge and skills to listen, speak, read, and write in Spanish. They will develop a strong understanding of phonics, grammar, and vocabulary. Pupils will learn to communicate for practical purposes, express ideas and opinions, and engage with authentic materials that connect their learning to real-world contexts, fostering both cultural awareness and linguistic competence. The Spanish curriculum begins with foundational language exposure, where pupils will explore basic sounds and greetings. They then will build conversational skills and cultural appreciation by engaging with increasingly complex and authentic materials. By KS5, pupils will be well prepared for further study or professional use of the Spanish language.

Pupils will achieve the ability to use Spanish effectively for communication and skills to pursue future pathways in higher education, travel, or careers where Spanish is essential, while also promoting intercultural understanding and collaboration. Additionally, pupils will acquire transferable skills, such as a strong grasp of grammar and strategies for learning new languages, equipping them for lifelong language learning.
