    English

At Guru Nanak Sikh Academy our all-through vision for English is to instill a love for reading where students have been exposed to a wide, diverse range of text types and are able to effectively organise and express their own thoughts in an articulate manner.

Through the journey from EYFS to KS5 pupils will progressively acquire the knowledge to read, write and speak confidently. Pupils will develop their understanding of the language through decoding, blending and mark- making which will give them the skills to communicate effectively. They will develop their grammar, punctuation and comprehension skills so that pupils can understand and analyse a range of rich texts critically. Pupils will become creative thinkers that are able to communicate perceptively about a range of themes. They will examine writers’ methods coherently and be able to apply them to their own writing imaginatively. Overall, they will have a love for literature and develop the habit of reading widely and often.

Pupils will achieve confidence in their spoken and written expression leading them to reach their potential and passions in life.
