At Guru Nanak Sikh Academy our all-through vision for Religious Studies is to foster a deep, respectful understanding of the diverse religious traditions that shape human experience, thought and culture. We strive to create an academic environment that encourages critical inquiry and empathy, empowering students to engage thoughtfully with the world’s religious views.
Through the journey from EYFS to KS5 pupils will progressively acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding to explore and reflect on diverse religious beliefs, practices and values. In the early years (EYFS to KS2), students will develop the foundations of the world faiths, focusing on stories, symbols and rituals. As they move into KS3, pupils will deepen their understanding of religious diversity, exploring the core beliefs and practices of Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism, alongside the exploration of non-religious worldviews. In KS4, students will be introduced to theological and philosophical concepts such as human rights, ethics and the role of religion in society. They will refine their ability to critically evaluate religious texts, practices and their influence within society. By KS5, students will further develop advanced analytical and research skills, exploring topics such as the philosophy of religion, the relationship between religion and science and the role of religion in global issues.
Pupils will achieve not only a deep understanding of religious traditions but also the intellectual tools to think critically, reflect on ethical questions, engage with diverse perspectives, and contribute to meaningful discussions about religion across the world. Throughout their journey, students will develop critical thinking, empathy and respect for different traditions, enabling them to engage with the complex questions that shape both their identity and the wider world.
