    Sikh Studies (Primary)

At Guru Nanak Sikh Academy our all-through vision for Gurmat is to inspire a deep and authentic understanding of the rich spiritual, historical and cultural heritage of Sikhism. We aim to cultivate a sense of pride, respect and responsibility in our students, equipping them with the knowledge and values drawn from Sikhism. This is done with the intent to connect students to practising the SHARE values of the school and contribute to their understanding of Religious Studies.

From EYFS to KS5 pupils will acquire  the knowledge to explore the core teachings of Sikhism, including the concepts of equality, justice and service to others as articulated by the Gurus. In the early years (EYFS to KS2) students will develop the foundations of the faith, focusing on the lives of the Gurus and key saakhis about their lives. As they move into KS3, students will gain insights into the life and legacy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the subsequent Gurus, while also engaging with the historical evolution of the Sikh community. By connecting the timeless teachings of Sikhism, students will develop critical thinking skills, empathy and a sense of social responsibility. Students will gain critical insights into Sikh teachings, as articulated in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and will enhance their intercultural awareness, learning to engage with diverse perspectives with respect and empathy. They will be encouraged to reflect on how the values of Sikhism, such as seva, humility, truthfulness, compassion and simran, can inform their lives and help them address the challenges of the modern world.

Pupils will achieve an understanding of the importance of spirituality, equality, and service to humanity. Students will develop a profound understanding of Sikhism, its history, beliefs and practices and foster a deep appreciation for its core values, including equality, selfless service and social justice.
