    Early Years Foundation Curriculum Overview

    At Guru Nanak Sikh Academy, our Phonics and Early Reading is the starting point to build competent and lifelong readers. We teach reading through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised; which is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme.

    Pupils will begin
    to mark make
    by drawing their
    family.
    Pupils will be writing
    their names and using initial sounds in their writing.
    Pupils will be writing some of the tricky words and CVC words. Pupils will begin to
    develop short
    sentences in a
    meaningful context.
    Pupils will begin writing
    phonetically plausible
    sentences with a focus on lowercase and uppercase letters.
    Pupils will write multiple
    sentences with capital
    letters, full stops and finger spaces.
