Mathematics

At Guru Nanak Sikh Academy our all-through vision for mathematics is centered around fostering a lifelong love for the subject by making it engaging, accessible, and relevant. From Reception to Sixth Form, we prioritise building strong foundations through hands-on, play-based learning in the early years, progressing to problem-solving and critical thinking in later stages. We emphasize mathematical fluency, resilience, and a growth mindset, ensuring all students, regardless of ability, are challenged and supported. By integrating technology, real-world applications, and cross-curricular connections, we prepare students to apply mathematics in meaningful ways, equipping them for success in their academic and future careers.

From EYFS to KS5 pupils will acquire  the knowledge From Early Years to Key Stage 5, students will progressively build a strong foundation in mathematics. In the Early Years, they develop number sense, basic arithmetic, and an understanding of shapes and patterns. By Key Stage 1, they master addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and explore money, time, and basic geometry. In Key Stage 2, students deepen their understanding of number operations, fractions, decimals, and measurement, while exploring data handling, geometry, and angles. Key Stage 3 expands on algebra, proportions, and further geometry, while Key Stage 4 solidifies these concepts and introduces higher-level topics like quadratic equations and trigonometry. In Key Stage 5, students gain advanced knowledge in calculus, statistics, and mathematical modeling, preparing them for university-level study or careers in STEM

Pupils will achieve By completing mathematics from Early Years to Key Stage 5, students will develop skills to solve real-life problems, from everyday tasks like budgeting and measuring to complex applications in fields such as engineering, economics, and medicine. They will gain the confidence to apply mathematical knowledge in a wide range of careers and real-world situations.
