Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

STEM are subjects key to the UK’s future prosperity and global competitiveness. At Guru Nanak Sikh Academy, we ensure that all our students are empowered with skills, attributes and knowledge to take on all challenges during any unprecedented times and create a strong supply of highly skilled employees for the diverse industry.

In Primary, the students are prepared to skills, knowledge and understanding of the subjects involved in STEM are vital for all young students in an increasing Science and technology driven cultural society. KS1 and KS2 Students are exposed to wide range of exciting, engaging workshops and innovation curriculum.

KS1 had to make an Easter bonnet from recycled materials and explain their reasoning for their material choice.

Years 3 and 4 made recyclable purses from orange juice cartons and Velcro.

Year 5s had a visit from a retired engineer and had the opportunity to make balloon powered buggies. This coincided nicely with their Science topic of forces. 

For Earth day 2021, KS2 had to make a water filter to help keep oceans clean. This had to be made from recycled materials and there were some very innovative designs. 

For an Easter STEM project, KS2 had to make an incubator for chicks. They had to think about a light source and many used a working circuit in their prototypes. 

KS2 have had virtual workshops with SRS railways and explored the following objectives:What is HS2?

1. What is High Speed Rail?
2. The evolution in the design of High Speed Rail?
3. What HS2 trains will potentially look like 
4. What job roles are involved in this?
5. Compare this design to the tiles found on the Blue Mosque, Afghanistan
