Our school community truly embraced the spirit of giving with an amazing response to our annual Christmas Jumper Appeal. This year, we supported three local nursing homes: Astoria Healthcare Hounslow (Vicarage Farm & The Mayfair) and Hayes Cottage Nursing Home in Hayes. A huge thank you to our parents and staff for your generosity! Continuing this act of kindness, the talented pupils of the GNSA Choir Club brought festive cheer to life with a heartwarming performance of Carols at Hayes Cottage Nursing Home. This special event not only showcased their incredible musical talents but also highlighted their compassion and commitment to community spirit. Small acts of kindness truly make a big difference. Year 13 Biologists - Ecology Field Trip to Juniper Hall, Mickleham, Dorking Year 13 Biologists visited Juniper Hall, which offered them the opportunity to study Ecology and conduct three required practicals within their exam board specification. On day 1, as one of the core practical students used the Lincoln Index to estimate the closed population size of snails, in a pond using capture, mark, release and recapture technique using a random sampling technique. On day 2, students went to the nearby river Tillingbourne, where they studied the effect of various abiotic factors on the distribution of various freshwater invertebrates using systematic sampling. Although very cold and freezing conditions, students worked their way through the practical to collect data whilst also enjoying themselves. On day 3, students studied the effect of controlled/monitored variables on the behaviour of woodlice. This trip provided all students the opportunity to independently plan investigations using the appropriate variables, collecting data followed by statistical analysis to find correlation between studied variables; student's t-test for statistical significance and chi- squared test to find the difference between the observed data and expected data. The trip was a great success with students who learnt alongside their friends and gained knowledge that was only possible outside of the classroom environment. #BiologyFieldTrip #EcologyInAction #HandsOnLearning #STEMEducation #OutdoorScience #FutureScientists #TeamworkInScience
